MODELING THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE OF THE CAHUACHI CEREMONIAL POLITICAL CENTER: RITUAL COMBATS AND DECAPITATIONS THROUGH A NAZCA CONTEXT

The ritual combat and decapitation have apparently been necessary and decisive actions for the proper development of ritual political events manipulated by various pre-Hispanic societies. Among the Nazca, these practices seem to have had a high degree of importance, linked to various ceremonial political contexts: worship of the dead, establishment of alliances and subordinations or religious political valorization of specific spaces. It is within the framework of this last aspect, that the analysis of an archaeological context registered in Cahuachi is addressed, in order to explain how decapitation within a ritual dimension legitimated cyclically the aura of the political power of the elites of Cahuachi. The capital of the Nazcas thus reaffirmed its sphere of power and modeled its own cultural landscape, endowing itself with a ceremonial and influential mythical political aura in the collective mentality of the Nazca populations.

El combate ritual y la decapitación, han sido aparentemente acciones necesarias y determinantes para el buen desarrollo de eventos políticos rituales manipulados por diversas sociedades prehispánicas. Entre los nazca, dichas prácticas, parecen haber tenido un alto grado de importancia, vinculados a diversos contextos políticos ceremoniales: culto a los muertos, establecimiento de alianzas y subordinaciones o valorización político religiosa de espacios específicos. Es en el marco de este último aspecto, que se aborda el análisis de un contexto arqueológico registrado en Cahuachi, a fin de explicar cómo la decapitación dentro de una dimensión ritual, legitimaba cíclicamente el aura del poder político de las élites de Cahuachi. La capital de los nazcas reafirmaba así su esfera de poder y modelaba su propio paisaje cultural, dotándose de un aura mítico político ceremonial e influyente en la mentalidad colectiva de las poblaciones nazca.
